Château de Wineck

The castle Wineck (French Château de Wineck ), also called Windeck, is the ruin of a small medieval hilltop castle site above the valley Winecker at Dambach Alsace and belongs to the type of rock castles.

History

According to archaeological findings, the castle was built in the 13th century. The castle is first documented in 1338, mentioned as Hauß Windecken owned by the knight Johann Marsilius of Saarbrücken. In 1517 Wolf Eckbrecht of Dürckheim received the castle together with Schoeneck castle as a fief.

The castle was probably destroyed in 1680 along with Castle Schoeneck.

Since 30 December 1985, it stands as a monument historique a historical monument.

Description

The castle ruins Wineck is 368 meters. From lying on the east side of the rock under the castle there are only a few remnants of walls. The Upper Castle is freely accessible and can only be reached by climbing stuff. The castle was opened to mountain climbing, but with regard to the archaeological relics. On the upper castle rock a room and remains of the tower and the curtain wall are obtained.
