The castle ruins small Arnsberg ( Arnsberg or French Petit Petit Arnsbourg ) is located on a hill north of the community Obersteinbach in the canton of Wissembourg / Département Bas- Rhin, France.

Except chambers, corridors and stairs in rock today is still a wall corner of the living tower of the Upper Castle available. Get further provides a receipt to the Upper Castle locking gate tower.

In this rock castle is probably the smallest needle seat in Alsace.

History

The castle is documented only since the 14th century detectable, the existing masonry ( hump on the square gate tower see picture below) but would for a development in late Hohenstaufen period (at least the mid-13th century) speak. At the castle were the lords of Wasigenstein who had the castle as a fief of the Abbey White Castle in possession. In 1335 the castle was besieged as a hiding place of the robber baron Friedrich von Wasigenstein and conquered.

By 1400, the Lords of Dahn ( Than ) have the castle as a fief. Friedrich von Dahn sold in 1420 a half of the castle of Ludwig von Lichtenberg. To 1483, the Lords of Adelsheim have the castle as a fief. After 1485, the castle is in the mode of inheritance in the property of the Counts of Zweibrücken- Bitsch. These can be fully renovate the castle from 1494. After they died, the counts of Hanau -Lichtenberg inherit the castle.

Through various vassals, including Cornelius von Hanau is the castle by the Treaties of 1604 and 1606 to Count Johann Reinhard I of Hanau- Lichtenberg. In the Thirty Years ' War the castle is destroyed in 1635 and since that time a ruin.
