Château Raymond-Lafon
Château Raymond - Lafon is a wine estate in the French Appellation d' Origine Sauternes. Within this appellation white dessert wines of the highest quality are produced with the help of the noble rot Botrytis cinerea; the returns are fixed in the appellation to a maximum of 25 hl / ha. Château Raymond - Lafon, however, is limited by rigorous selection of only 8.5 hl / ha.
The estate was founded in the mid 19th century by Raymond Lafon. Due to the timing of the establishment of the Château could not be included in the Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855.
1972 Château Raymond - Lafon has been adopted by the couple Francine and Pierre Meslier. Previously, Pierre Meslier headed for many years as Technical Director, the world-famous neighboring estate Château d'Yquem. He transferred to the high quality standards at his own good. Since 1979, world-class wines are produced with great regularity. Behind Château d'Yquem and Château de Fargues Château Raymond - Lafon is often one of the best, if not the most expensive Sauternes, although the estate any recognition to the Grand Cru missing. Since 1990 the estate of Mesliers children Marie-Françoise, Charles- Henri and Jean -Pierre Meslier is headed.
The farm has an area of 18 hectares, of which 15.2 hectares in production. The average age of the vines is 35 years ( as of 2004). We process the grape varieties Sémillon (80 % of the area ) and Sauvignon Blanc ( 20%). On average, about 20,000 bottles are produced. Before the marketing of the wine is aged three years in oak barrels.
