Chatham Maroons (IHL)

The Chatham Maroons were a Canadian ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Chatham -Kent, Ontario. The venue of the Maroons was the Chatham Memorial Arena.

History

The Chatham Maroons were founded in 1949 as a franchise of the International Hockey League. Equal in their first season, the team could win the Turner Cup in the 1949/50 season after 4-3 prevailed in the final in the best- of-seven series against the Sarnia Sailors. Despite this success, the Maroons changed after three years in the amateur league OHA Sr. A, they each were won in 1956 and 1960, being then still the Allan Cup won in season 1959/60, which the team of Canadian amateur champion. In addition, Chatham reached in 1962 and 1963 respectively the playoff finals.

Only in the season 1963/64, the Chatham Maroons returned back to the International Hockey League and thus the world of professional hockey. After a disappointing season with only 47 points from 70 games, the franchise then presented a game operation.
