Chattooga County, Georgia

The Chattooga County is located in the U.S. state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Summerville. In the 2000 census, the county had 25 470 inhabitants and a population density of 31 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Georgia, on the west by Alabama and is in the north about 50 miles from Tennessee away. It has an area of 812 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water, and bordered clockwise to the following counties: Walker County, Gordon County and Floyd County.

History

Chattooga County was born on December 28, 1838 from parts of Floyd County and Walker County gebildet.Benannt it was after the Chattooga River. Built in 1909, County Courthouse in Summersville is listed in the national database of Historic Places.
