Chaux-Neuve

Chaux -Neuve is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chaux -Neuve is located at 991 m above sea level, about 31 km southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the wide longitudinal trough of the Val de Mouthe on Cébriot, between the heights of the Haute Joux in the northwest and the Risoux in the south, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​28.31 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The landscape is characterized by parallel ridges and terrain longitudinal troughs, which are oriented in the southwest-northeast, according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the region. The central part of the area is occupied by a roughly two -mile-wide longitudinal recess which forms a synclinorium in geological- tectonic terms. History

The area was uninhabited until the 13th century, belonged to the Abbot of Saint -Claude. From this it received the lords of Chalon- Arlay as a fief and left the castle of Châtelblanc build. In the 14th century Chaux -Neuve were granted certain liberties in order to encourage settlement of the area. Chaux -Neuve now belonged to Kastlanei Châtelblanc.
