Chavannes -de- Bogis is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Chavannes -de- Bogis is located on 479 m above sea level. M., 7 km southwest of the district town of Nyon (air line). The village is located in the extreme southwest of Vaud on the ridge between the valley of Versoix and Geneva.

The area of ​​2.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the back between the Versoix in the west and the lake to the east. The highest point of Chavannes -de- Bogis reaches 482 m above sea level. M. The western boundary is formed by the course of the river Versoix, which runs with numerous meanders in a partly marshy valley (Les Bataillards ). In the south, the area extends to the Bois de Portes. From the municipality surface 1997 23 % came from settlements, 11 % of forest and shrubs, 58 % to agriculture and a little less than 8 % was unproductive land.

To Chavannes -de- Bogis the hamlet Péguey heard (476 m above sea level. M. ) east of Versoix on the edge of the Bois de Portes. Population

With 1005 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Chavannes -de- Bogis one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 72.0 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 12.6 % in English and 7.1 % German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Chavannes -de- Bogis amounted in 1850 to 97 inhabitants in 1900 to 143 inhabitants. After 1970 (137 inhabitants ) continued a rapid increase in population with a six-fold increase in population within 30 years.

Economy

Chavannes -de- Bogis was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Today, agriculture in the fertile soil of the environment as a source of income has only a marginal importance. Thanks to its excellent traffic connections to the A1 motorway, numerous companies in Chavannes -de- Bogis settled in the last 30 years. In recent decades, Chavannes -de- Bogis has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work mainly in Geneva.

Traffic

The community is located directly at the motorway exit Coppet the A1 ( Geneva -Lausanne, opened in 1964 ). There is a border crossing to the neighboring French community Divonne- les- Bains. By Postbus course, which runs from Nyon to Coppet, Chavannes -de- Bogis is connected to the public transport network.

History

Probably the first clearings were carried out in the 13th century on the site of today's Chavannes -de- Bogis under the Cistercian abbey Bonmont and made ​​the area under cultivation. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1477 under the name Cabane de Bogiez. The place name derives from the vulgar Latin capanna (cottage, small courtyard ). Chavannes -de- Bogis was under the castellan of La Rippe, which exacted the tithes and taxes for the Bonmont Abbey. The jurisdiction of the village owned the abbey and the Lords of Gex.

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Chavannes -de- Bogis came under the administration of the bailiwick of Nyon and 1711 the Bailiwick Bonmont. After the collapse of the ancien régime Chavannes -de- Bogis belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.

Attractions

On the northern edge of the village there is a small chapel, which was built in 1928 and is used together with the neighboring village of Bogis -Bossey.
