Chavannes-le-Veyron

Chavannes -le- Veyron is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Chavannes -le- Veyron is located at 610 m above sea level. M., 11 km north of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The village extends to the foot of the Jura plateau, north of the valley of the Veyron, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​2.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating Vaud Mittelland. From west to east the area is crossed by slightly sunken into the plateau valley of the Veyron. South of the river extends the communal land in the Bois de la Foule, in the 634 m above sea level. Population

With 129 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Chavannes -le- Veyron is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 93.6% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.0 % and 1.6 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Chavannes -le- Veyron amounted in 1850 to 136 residents in 1900 to 162 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1970 to 86 persons, a slight increase in population was observed again since then.

Economy

Chavannes -le- Veyron still lives by agriculture, mainly of crops, livestock and dairy farming. Outside the primary sector, there is little employment in the village. Until the 1960s, the Veyron was a sawmill and a blacksmith shop in operation. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in Cossonay and in the Lausanne area.

History

In Chavannes -le- Veyron a grave mound was discovered from the Hallstatt period. The place name derives from the vulgar Latin capanna (cottage, small courtyard ). From the Middle Ages until the 17th century when this was the infirmary of Cossonay. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. Attractions

The Church of Chavannes -le- Veyron was newly built in 1844 on the site of a nascent decline in God's house of 1636.
