ChEBI

ChEBI ( Chemical Entities of Biological Interest) is a freely available dictionary of molecular entities focused on chemical compounds that occur in the metabolism of living organisms. The term ' molecular entity ' refers to any species of atoms, molecules, ions, ion pairs, radicals, complexes, conformations, etc.

ChEBI also provides an ontology with which the complex classification of chemical compounds can be illustrated by a tree structure.

The nomenclature, terminology and symbolism used in ChEBI correspond to international standards and are recommended by the following bodies:

  • International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC)
  • Nomenclature Committee of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology ( NC - IUBMB )

Molecules, which are directly encoded by the genome (eg, nucleic acids, proteins and peptides resulting from cleavage ), usually find no entrance into the ChEBI database.

All the data stored in proprietary ChEBI neither nor were obtained from a proprietary source. Free access to the data is guaranteed. In addition, each data element can be traced back to its original source.
