Cheek

Cheek (of Indo-European wank, Old High German wanga, curve '), anatomical ( generally in animals ) and jaw ( phonetically similar to Latin Bucca but is not related), refers to a fleshy part of the face between the zygomatic and mandible. The cheeks are located under the eye sockets and limited backward through the ears and at the front by the nose and chin.

The muscular basis of the cheek is the back muscle (musculus buccinator). It is covered by the outer skin and the inside of the mucosa of the oral cavity. In the buccal wall will also find small salivary glands packets back glands ( glands buccal ). The blood supply is via the buccal artery.

The cheeks are always as an indication of the state of health. Such a person is classified as " rosy " cheeks as healthy, pale people, however, rather than sickly. Therefore, women emphasize their cheeks like rouge. Both some men and women decorate their cheeks with a cheek piercing.
