Chelation, called in soil science and complexation, is a chemical weathering process, specifically a biochemical process in which metal ions are separated out by binding to organic acids from their solids.

Without this process, various substances were insoluble because of their resistance to weathering. In the process metal - organic complexes, chelating acids formed, consisting of decomposition products of plants (eg, lichens ) and excreta are living roots arise.
