Chellie Pingree

Rochelle M. " Chellie " Pingree ( born April 2, 1955 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American politician. Since 2009, it represents the first congressional district of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Life

Chellie Pingree attended until 1973, the University of Southern Maine in Portland. She then studied until 1979 at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor. Then she became a successful businesswoman in Maine. She was involved in agriculture, in homework and in a shop in North Haven. Then she went into the Strickereigeschäft. She lives in North Haven and has three children, including the democratic politician Hannah Pingree.

Policy

Chellie Pingree is a member of the Democratic Party. In the 1980s she held several public offices in North Haven. Between 1992 and 2000 she was a member of the Senate of Maine. There she led at times the democratic faction. In 2002, Pingree ran unsuccessfully against Susan Collins for the U.S. Senate.

In the congressional elections of 2008, it was then in the 1st Congressional District of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There it began on January 3, 2009 to the succession by Tom Allen. In the congressional elections in 2010 she beat her challenger Dean Scontras ( Republicans ) with 57 to 43 percent and was thus elected for another two-year term.

After the Republican Senator of the State of Olympia Snowe announced not to run again for the Senate elections in 2012, there was speculation about a new application Pingrees for the U.S. Senate. They refrained as the former governor of Maine, Angus King declared his candidacy as an independent candidate.
