Cheng Pei-pei
Cheng Pei- pei (Chinese郑佩佩, Pinyin Zheng PeiPei, born December 4, 1946 in Shanghai, China) is a Chinese actress, known for her roles as a fighter in many wuxia films.
Biography
Born in 1946 in Shanghai Cheng started at a young age her film career at Shaw Brothers in Hong Kong. Already at 19, she had her big break in King Hu wuxia film Come Drink With Me ( Engl. title Sword of yellow tigress ). Hu cast her for the role of Golden Swallow, as she brought ballet experience as a dancer and so was able to master the fight scenes. Although there have also been previously female fighter in Chinese cinema, but this film reached in this respect a new level. So Come Drink With Me Cheng made practically overnight star.
In the following years she starred in many wuxia films and became the main actress of the so-called "Sword Woman" roles in Hong Kong cinema. After her marriage in 1974, Cheng moved for many years, back into private life, which is not uncommon for female movie stars in Hong Kong. She lived in that time in the United States.
1986 Cheng returned back to the film, but usually played only minor roles. But then she had attracted international attention to the role of Jadefuchs in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
