Cherasco

Cherasco ( Cherasch Piedmontese ) is a municipality with 8802 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN ), Region Piedmont. In Cherasco are vines for the Dolcetto d' Alba, grown a red wine with DOC status.

The municipality consists of the villages Roreto, Bricco de ' Lazy, Veglia, Cappellazzo, San Bartolomeo, San Giovanni and Sant'Antonino. The neighboring municipalities are Bra, Cervere, La Morra, Marene Narzole and Salmour. The patron saint of the place is Cristo Risorto.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 288 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 81 km ².

History

Cherasco created by the will of Manfredi Lancia in 1243, which belongs to a cadet branch of Aleramiden Dynasty. In Roman times there was a place with a name Clerascum, and just next to this was the Imperial Vicar Lancia build a new village. Cherasco soon fell into the hands of the opposing party, the Guelphs of Charles I of Naples.

In 1277 Cherasco went along with Alba, Asti and Chieri, in the dark times of the congregation struggles again as a free and independent community on the Ghibellines back. In 1303, the city had to give up their autonomy to the Anjou and then, in 1347 Amadeus VI. , Count of Savoy.

On April 6, and on June 19, 1631 were by the plenipotentiaries of Victor Amadeus I of Savoy, the Emperor Ferdinand II and King Louis XIII. of France signed two peace treaties. With this peace of Cherasco ended the Mantuan War of Succession ( 1628-1631 ).

On the morning of April 23, 1796, the French besieged during Napoleon's Italian campaign Cherasco, which in the evening with a request for an armistice on the part of General Colli, the commander of the Piedmont, surrendered. Napoleon Bonaparte marched into the city and sat down. The Corsican General informed the armistice of Cherasco through, even though he stated that he was not allowed to act for the Board. Palazzo Salmatoris

The Palazzo is located in the city center and gets its name by the locally based noble Giovanni di Audino Salmatoris who had it built in 1620. He is also " Peace Palace " ( Palazzo della Pace ), because he was witness to many historical events of the city; including the retention of the Turin cloth grave in 1706 and the signing of the armistice between Napoleon and the Savoy kingdom in 1796 should be mentioned. In recent centuries it has undergone a series of restoration measures and today it is an important cultural center, which houses international art exhibitions.

Synagogue

The synagogue was built in the 18th century within the old ghetto of the city ( which was formed in 1725 and abolished by Carl Albert in 1848 ) was built.
