Cherokee County (North Carolina)

Cherokee County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Murphy, which was named after the politician Archibald Murphey.

Geography

The County is located in the westernmost tip of North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia borders both and has an area of ​​1209 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Graham County, Macon County and Clay County.

Cherokee County is divided into six townships: Beaverdam, Hothouse, Murphy, Alton, Shoal Creek and Valley Town.

History

Cherokee County was formed in 1839 from parts of Macon County. It was named after the Cherokee Indians.
