Cherokee County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Gaffney.

Geography

The County is located in the north of South Carolina, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1029 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rutherford County and Cleveland County, North Carolina, Union County and Spartanburg County.

History

Cherokee County was formed in 1897. It was named after the North American Indian tribe of the Cherokee.
