Cherwell (District)

Cherwell is a District in the County of Oxfordshire in England. It is named after the River Cherwell, which flows into the River Thames at Oxford. Council is based in Banbury; significant sights are Bicester, Bodicote, Cropredy, Drayton, Hook Norton and Kidlington.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Municipal Borough Banbury, Bicester and the Urban District of Rural Districts Banbury and Ploughley.
