Chesalles -sur -Moudon is a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Chesalles -sur- Moudon lies at 702 m above sea level. M., 18 km southwest of the district town Payerne ( straight line ). The farming village extends on a ridge east of the center Broyetals, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​1.7 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehügellandes between the Broyetal and the upper reaches of the Glane. The northwestern border is the edge of the forest above the escarpment on the right side of the Broyetals; in the west the boundary runs along the Voraire, a side stream of the Broye who has dug over time a deep erosion valley into the hillside. To the east of the municipality of soil on the terrace of Chesalles -sur -Moudon and the adjacent peaks extending up to the northern slope of the hill Brûle Fer, at the 800 m above sea level. Population

With 148 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Chesalles -sur -Moudon is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 93.7% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 1.9 % and 1.3 % speak Dutch ( as of 2000). The population of Chesalles -sur -Moudon amounted in 1850 to 133 residents in 1900 to 108 inhabitants. Thereafter, a further decrease to 86 inhabitants was recorded until 1970; Since then, the population has risen significantly.

Economy

Chesalles -sur -Moudon was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1273 under the name Chesales. The Old French word Chesal refers to the ruins of a building. In the Middle Ages Chesalles -sur -Moudon belonged to the bishop of Lausanne and the Kastlanei Lucens was assumed. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Chesalles -sur -Moudon belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Moudon.

Attractions

The Church of Chesalles -sur -Moudon was inaugurated in 1846; the parsonage dates back from 1909. Situated in the center and some characteristic farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
