Chesalles-sur-Oron

Chesalles -sur -Oron was until 31 December 2011, a municipality in the district of Lavaux-Oron in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On January 1, 2012, it merged with Oron.

Geography

Chesalles -sur -Oron is located at 787 meters above sea level. M., 2 km east-northeast of the town Oron- la -Ville and 19 km east-northeast of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The small village extends on the wide terrace of a ridge east of the upper Broye, in the eastern marginal zone of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​2.0 km ² large former municipal area comprises a portion of Molassehügellandes in the foothills. The central part of the area is occupied by the broad, slowly decaying to the west ridge of Chesalles -sur -Oron, on the east of the village at 850 m above sea level. M. the highest point of the former municipality is reached. To the north of the former communal land extends to the stream of the Flon, south into the forest Bois de l' Erberey and in the course of Mionne. These streams drain the former municipality of Chesalles -sur -Oron the Broye. From the former rural community area in 1997 accounted for 10% of settlements, 17 % of forest and woody plants and 73% to agriculture.

Population

With 189 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Chesalles -sur -Oron is one of the smallest former municipalities of the canton of Vaud. Of the 95.3 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.1 % and 0.7 % speak Dutch ( as of 2000). The population of Chesalles -sur -Oron amounted in 1850 to 198 residents in 1900 to 175 inhabitants. Thereafter, by strong emigration to 1980 recorded a decrease to 121 inhabitants; Since then, the population rose slightly again.

Economy

Chesalles -sur -Oron was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. History

The former municipality of Chesalles -sur -Oron has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, as evidenced by the discovery of a skeleton grave with rich offerings. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1150 under the name Caselles and Chaselles. The Old French word Chesal refers to the ruins of a building.

In the Middle Ages Chesalles -sur -Oron was its own little rule. 1330 sold Perrod Ferlens of the village with its possessions to the bishop of Lausanne and received it from this as a fief back. As a result Chesalles -sur -Oron Oron belonged to the rule and shared their fate. This was converted after the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1557 in the Bernese bailiff. The Bernese united the village with Oron -le- Châtel. After the collapse of the ancien régime Chesalles -sur -Oron belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Oron. It was not until 1812 Chesalles -sur -Oron sparked by Oron -le- Châtel and forms up to 31 December 2011, an independent political community.
