Chesme Church

The Tschesmensker Church (Russian Чесменская церковь, full name Church of Saint John the Baptist on Tschesmensker Palace, Russian церковь Рождества Иоанна Предтечи при Чесменском Дворце ) is a church building in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was built in honor of Russian sailors. At the Battle of Çeşme the Russian fleet in 1770 won the decisive victory in the 5th Russian Turkish War. The architect Georg Friedrich Veldten (Russian: Юрий Матвеевич Фельтен ) created the unconventional building in 1780 in neo-Gothic style with oriental motifs.
