Chester C. Thompson

Chester Charles Thompson ( born September 19, 1893 in Iceland skirt, Illinois; † January 30, 1971 ) was an American politician. Between 1933 and 1939 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Chester Thompson attended the public schools of his home. Between 1910 and 1932 he worked in the plastering trade. During the First World War he served in the years 1918 and 1919 as a corporal in the coast artillery. From 1922 to 1926 he was treasurer at the Rock County Iceland; 1927 to 1933, he served as mayor of the City of Rock, Iceland. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1930 to 1932 he was a member of the State Board in Illinois.

In the congressional elections of 1932, Thompson was in the 14th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Republican John Clayton Allen on March 4, 1933. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1939 three legislative periods. During his time in Congress, most of the New Deal legislation of the Federal Government there were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Thompson was a supporter of the President and of these laws. In 1935, the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were first applied, after which the term of the Congress ends or begins on January 3.

In 1938, Thompson was not re-elected. Between 1939 and 1944 he was president of the Inland Waterways Corporation. Thereafter, he served from 1944 to 1957 as president of the American Waterways Operators, Inc. since 1961 until his death he was chairman of the jury commission in rock Iceland County. He died on January 30, 1971 in his hometown of rock Iceland.
