Chester (district)

City of Chester was a District with the status of a city in the county of Cheshire in England. In addition to the city of Chester, it included a large, rural embossed area with numerous small villages, of which Malpas and Tarvin were the most important.

The District was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the County Borough and the Chester Rural District Chester and Tarvin. On 1 April 2009 it was disbanded due to a territorial and administrative reform, and went on in the new unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester.
