Chester (Nova Scotia)

Chester is a municipality and administrative unit in Nova Scotia, Canada. The original town of Chester has about 1,600 inhabitants.

History

The town of Chester was founded in 1759 on the north shore of Mahone Bay. 1761 a group of immigrants from Massachusetts, United States established themselves. Chester served for a long time pirates and bootleggers as the slip angle.

Economy

As a holiday destination Chester is now one of the most affluent communities in Nova Scotia. The Mahone Bay and its hundreds of islands Chester is also a popular destination for boaters. Every year in August organized by the local yacht club, a race weekend, where sailors of the entire east coast of North America compete.

Chester is also home to the Chester Playhouse, the most famous theater on the south coast of Nova Scotia.

A ferry connects Chester with the barrier island Tancook Iceland. The island is known for its vegetable production.
