Chestnut-fronted Macaw

The Chestnut fronted Macaw (Ara severus, Syn: Ara severa ) is a species of parrot from the genus of authentics macaws (Ara ) in the family of authentics parrots ( Psittacidae ). The Art- severus epithet comes from the Latin and means strict, austere, serious -looking.

Features

The Chestnut fronted Macaw reaches a body length of 48 cm and a weight of 335 g, and it is colored predominantly green. The undersides of the wings and long pointed tail are dull red, the bend of wing bright red. The top of the primaries is blue, green is the top of the secondaries. The forehead is maroon, the top of the head bluish green. The skin around the eyes is featherless and white, with little light yellowish -appearing color. The beak is black and the iris of the eyes orange to yellow.

Distribution and habitat

The Chestnut fronted Macaw is north and south of the Orinoco, distributed in Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana to Maranhao, in Northeast Brazil and northern Bolivia. Northernmost distribution area is the East of Panama. It is found in a variety of habitats in the lowland rain forest, in dry forest, savannas and edges of rain forests, wetlands, secondary forests, partly forested countryside and along rivers.

Threats and conservation

The Chestnut fronted Macaw is quite common and is classified based on its large distribution area and the apparently stable population as not threatened (Least Concern LC) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources ( IUCN). He's in Endangered Species Convention ( CITES) in Appendix II and in the EC Regulation 709/2010 [ EC ] listed in Appendix B and strictly or specifically protected by Federal Nature Conservation Act [ BG ] (Status: b).

Way of life

Rotbugaras are usually in pairs or found in small groups of up to 20 animals, and long distances from the catch - up to the feeding grounds back. The diet is varied, ranging over different fruits, seeds, nuts, palm fruits and berries.
