Chevilly-Larue

Chevilly -Larue is a French municipality with 18,532 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Val -de- Marne, south-west of Paris, in the Ile- de -France region.

Naming

First mentioned in writing the place was founded in 829 as Civiliacum in a zoning certificate.

Chevilly -Larue is made up of the names of two originally in the field of community located ends, villages. Chevilly, from Latin Civiliacum goes back to the mansion of a Gallo Roman, probably named Civilis. The hamlet Larue ( La ruelle, later La rue - French for street or road ) got its name from the link between L' Haÿ -les- Roses, Fresnes, where the settlement was founded at the end of the Hundred Years War.

On September 5, 1920, the community was renamed by decree in Chevilly -Larue, in order in particular stand out from Chevilly in the Loiret.

History

During the Franco-German War, the town was taken in September 1870 by the Battle of Chevilly affected.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms from 1942 shows a silver downward dove on a blue background, symbolizing the Holy Spirit. It is surrounded by a red border with eight diamonds from the arms of the Rohan family, which was from 1758 to 1781 landowners.

It was replaced by a modern -sounding Logo 2002, which takes up elements of the coat of arms. The dove rises to now, toward the sky and toward the future. The number of diamonds has been reduced to five, they now represent the five districts.
