Chevron (anatomy)
The Chevronknochen ( chevron bone ) is a bone at the base of the caudal spine in some terrestrial vertebrates ( Tetrapoda ).
It serves as an attachment point for the muscles of the tail. Chevronknochen come in many reptiles, both recent ( tuataras, crocodiles ) and in fossil forms, but are also in some mammals such as whales trained.
In a wider sense is the Chevronknochen the Hämalbogen ( Haemapophyse ), the oriented of the paired ventral ( belly down) Dorsalrippe the tail spine is formed. The actual Chevronknochen ( Chevronknochen in the narrow sense ) is created when combining the two extensions ventrally to a Y - shaped bone.
The Chevronknochen ( broad sense ) correspond to the unpaired Intercentra many reptile species that occur in these neck and trunk spine between two vertebrae; in original forms, for example, several crocodiles, they serve as an approach for ripping head.
