Chi Coltrane

Chicago " Chi " Coltrane [ ʃɪkɑ ː goʊ ʃaɪ kɔltreɪn ] ( born November 16, 1942 in Racine, Wisconsin) is an American rock musician, singer and songwriter.

Life

Chi Coltrane took an early interest in music. At twelve she already spoke eight instruments, but opted for the piano. As a teenager she began in clubs in Chicago to play and soon acquired a certain reputation. In 1971, she represented the U.S. at the International Rock Festival in Rio de Janeiro. She moved to Los Angeles, where she was invited by Curtis Mayfield as a guest on his show. As a result, she was offered a recording contract.

The first album called Chi Coltrane came in 1972 on the market. The resulting single from the Thunder and Lightning reached the Top Ten and sold over a million copies. 1973 their second album Let it Ride. The criticism referred to them as the "Queen of Rock" and in place of Janis Joplin. It was followed by numerous appearances on popular TV shows. In Europe, Coltrane's records sold very well. The excessive touring took their toll. She retired for a time from the stage and focused on songwriting.

1977 came out the third album Road to Tomorrow. The following year she toured with the German group Lake by Germany. The press celebrated as "the beautiful and the hard stop ".

The next albums were Silk and Steel (1981, with the hits Blinded by Love and Leaving It All Behind ) and Ready to Roll (1982, with On My Own Soul Talker, Here Comes the Rain and Clouds, Dreams and Love ). 1982 Chi produced their only live album, Live, which was also a great success.

In 1986 the CD The Message with songs like Goodbye My Love, I Did not Want to Fall in Love and The Message, which was hardly observed. For this reason, let Teldec Germany expire the contract with her. No other record company in Europe and the U.S. interested then for Coltrane. In 1990, she took on the title shot to Despair for the CD El Dorado in support of the rainforest. In 1991 she wrote the music for an edition of the German TV series Tatort, which she recorded along with Tangerine Dream. This was followed by no further publications more.

Chi Coltrane lived for two years in Zurich, before she returned to the States in 1993. In Los Angeles, she built a recording studio. She was involved in a number of aid projects. Appeared in 1998, the compilation Chi Coltrane 's Golden Classics.
