Chibougamau

Chibougamau is a town in the south of the Canadian province of Quebec.

The city is located in the regional county municipality ( municipalité régional de comté ) Jamesie and was founded in 1952, after (copper and other metals) were discovered in the area ore deposits. It is the largest city in northern Quebec.

The city is located in a lakeside scenery. To the east are the two largest: Lac aux Doré and Lac Chibougamau. The Rivière Chibougamau drained it and then flows south and west in a great arc around the city.
