Chickaloon is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Matanuska- Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States.
Geography
The area is located northeast of Sutton. The western boundary is located at the Kings River and the eastern boundary on Purinton Creek. The Talkeetna Mountains are located in the north-west and the Chugach Mountains and Matanuska River are located in the southeast. The Chickaloon River and Kings River are the two major tributaries of the Matanuska River. In the area there are several lakes.
History
The local indigenous people of the Ahtna and Dena'ina Athabascan - visited the area to the Copper River and Cook Inlet. The Chickaloon River was named after the Chief Chiklu, the last Denai'ina chief in the area. 1898 coal field was discovered near the Chickaloon River. When the Alaska Railroad laid a railway track to the coal fields, organized the U.S. Navy in the years 1915 to 1922 coal mining in the area. 1925 presented the Navy a coal mining. The country in 1958 was released for settlement.
Economy
There are some lodges in the area that offer accommodation facilities for inhabitants and travelers. Many residents work in Palmer, Wasilla, Anchorage and North Slope. Chickaloon is accessible via the state highway system and local roads. There are several private start and runways in the area.

At the time of the census in 2000 ( U.S. Census 2000) had Chickaloon CDP 213 inhabitants on a land area of 205.7 km ². The average age was 43.8 years ( national U.S. average: 35.3 years ). The per capita income ( per capita income engl. ) amounted to U.S. $ 14,755 ( U.S. National Average: U.S. $ 21,587 ). 2.8 % of residents were with their income below the poverty line ( national U.S. average: 12.4% ) .46,0 % of the population are of Irish, 23.0% Italian and 20.7% German ancestry.
