Chickasaw Campaign of 1736

The Battle of Ackia ( A'ki: a) took place on May 26, 1736, in the vicinity of present-day Tupelo, Mississippi, instead. She was part of the struggle for control of the Mississippi River. The French wanted by the river their Louisiana colony connect to the northern part of New France, but Indian tribes such as the Chikasha and the Natchez prepared the French control of the river valley in question.

Ackia, a Chikasha village was attacked by a force of French and Chahta Indians under the command of the Governor of Louisiana, Jean -Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. The Chikasha who were allied with the British, fought off the attack successfully.

The Battlefield of Ackia in 1938 declared a National Monument. In 1961 it was integrated into the Natchez Trace Parkway and is now called " Chickasaw Village. "
