Chicoasén Dam

The Manuel M. Torres Dam (Spanish, also called Presa Presa Manuel M. Torres Chicoasén ) jamming on a large lake in Mexico. The dam is located 18 kilometers north of Tuxtla Gutierrez in Chiapas on the Grijalva River, the largest river in Chiapas, and is named after the engineer Manuel Moreno Torres, who was during the presidency of Adolfo López Mateos 1959-1964 Director General of the power plant company CFE.

The dam is used to generate electricity; the hydropower plant has a capacity of 1500 MW. The 261 m high dam was built from Erdschüttmaterial. It is one of the world's ten tallest dams. The memory contents of the dam is about 1.6 billion cubic meters.
