Chief Secretary for Ireland

The Chief Secretary (Irish Príomh - Rúnaí ) was a key member of the British administration in Ireland. Formally he was the number two in the administration of the Lord Lieutenant, but in practice often sat the Chief Secretary in the British cabinet and not the higher formally asked the Lord Lieutenant.

The office was abolished in 1922 and (now Taoiseach ) transferred the powers of the President of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State.
