Chieti

Chieti (old: Teati, Teate ) is a university town in Italy with 51 321 inhabitants. It is 15 km from the Adriatic Sea in the Abruzzo region near the Pescara river on a narrow mountain ridge that extends along the river.

Chieti mainly consists of the old town of Chieti Alta, which is located on the hill above the Pescara valley and the modern industrial development Chieti Scalo in the valley. About a highway Chieti is connected to the port city of Pescara on the Adriatic.

While Chieti Scalo offers little Attractions, Chieti Alta is worth seeing if only because of the wide-ranging look. The town center has retained its old appearance, outstanding building is the cathedral here, which originally dates from the 13th century, but is Baroque style in the interior. In addition, the boulevard Corso Marrucino of importance as well as the Museo Archeologico in which, among other things, a 2.70 m high statue warrior from pre-Roman times can be seen ( Warrior of Capistrano ).

In Chieti is also the headquarters of the University of Chieti and Pescara, Università Gabriele D' Annunzio, with a modern university clinic.

The city is the capital of the province of Chieti and Chieti - Vasto seat of the Archdiocese, their patron saint is San Giustino.

Some games of the European Basketball Championship of Women in 2007 were held in Chieti.

The local football club Calcio Chieti plays in the 2009/10 season in the fünftklassigen series D. The home games of the association will be held at the Stadio Guido Angelini.
