Chiguayante

Chiguayante is a city in the middle of the South American Andean country Chile. It is situated in the Región del Bío -Bío and has 82 545 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005).

Geography

Chiguayante part of the agglomeration Gran Concepción, located a few kilometers south-east of Concepcion on the road to Hualqui.

History

On March 4, 1819 put Bernardo O'Higgins by decree the construction of a road from Concepcion to Hualqui fixed. In about the middle distance is Chiguayante. 1845 Chiguayante was declared a city. On October 7, 1925, the municipality was Chiguayante. On December 30, 1927, the city was incorporated in Concepción. It was only on 28 June 1996, the city became independent again. From the earthquake in February 2010, the city was hit particularly hard.

Economy

Chiguayante is an industrial and service location, which has a very good transport links to the agglomeration Gran Concepcíon. The booming field Gran Concepcíon but causes a number of environmental problems. The city is often plagued by traffic congestion and pollution of the river Bío Bío by the expansion of Gran Concepcíon is also a problem.

Tourism

Main attraction for tourists is certainly the Bio-Bio river.
