Chilean escudo

The Chilean escudo was 1960-1975 the currency of Chile. It was divided into 100 centésimos. He replaced the (old ) Chilean Peso ratio of 1 escudo = 1000 pesos and was in turn replaced 1 peso = 1000 escudos by the (new) Chilean peso relative. For the escudo currency symbol E ° was used.

Until 1851 Chile also issued gold escudos modeled after the Spanish escudos, which corresponded to 16 reales or 2 pesos worth.

1960 coins were introduced for 1, 2, 5 and 10 centésimos; 1962 ½ centesimo coin was also marked. 1971 a new series of coins with denominations of 10, 20 and 50 centésimos and 1, 2 and 5 escudos was issued. 1974 were added to the values ​​10, 50 and 100 escudos.

1960 a provisional series of notes was issued in the form of overprints on old peso notes. The ratings were ½, 1, 5, 10 and 50 centésimos and 1, 5, 10 and 50 escudos. Regular escudo notes were introduced in 1962, with the denominations of ½, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 escudos. In 1967 the nominal value of 500, 1000, 5000 and 10,000 escudos added.
