Chilean presidential election, 2009–2010

In the presidential elections in Chile 2009/2010 the right-wing businessman Sebastián Piñera ( RN ) to succeed the incumbent Chilean President Michelle Bachelet (PS ) was chosen.

Was already in the first round of the fifth since the Transición presidential election on December 13, 2009 Piñera expected before the Christian Democrat Eduardo Frei Ruiz - Tagle Senator, but missed with 44.1 percent of the required absolute majority. In the run-off election on January 17, 2010, Piñera but then was able to prevail with just 51.6 percent supported by the center- left coalition Concertación Frei Ruiz - Tagle.
