Chilean presidential election, 2009–2010

In the presidential elections in Chile 2009/2010 the right-wing businessman Sebastián Piñera ( RN ) to succeed the incumbent Chilean President Michelle Bachelet (PS ) was chosen.

Was already in the first round of the fifth since the Transición presidential election on December 13, 2009 Piñera expected before the Christian Democrat Eduardo Frei Ruiz - Tagle Senator, but missed with 44.1 percent of the required absolute majority. In the run-off election on January 17, 2010, Piñera but then was able to prevail with just 51.6 percent supported by the center- left coalition Concertación Frei Ruiz - Tagle.

At the same time the presidential election, the election to the House with 120 members, and the selection of 20 of the 38 senators according to the binomial electoral system took place.
