Chiliarch

Chiliarch (Greek χιλίαρχος, chili archos ) was the Greek name for the commander of the " apple carrier guard" in the Persian Empire of the Achaemenids or for the commander of 1,000 men. He later also took over major government functions, which are often compared in the (older) research with those of an oriental vizier; to what extent this is true, is controversial. So he was probably responsible for example for monitoring the Hofverkehrs, perhaps also for introduction of envoys, although there is no agreement on this point in the research.

Alexander the Great took office and made it the largest ranges of items. He wore it at first his closest friend Hephaestion, Perdiccas Chiliarch after his death was, and thus remained a high court office also associated with the Diadochi. However, there is no evidence of the existence of the title under the Parthians, although this would be possible. Under the Sassanids, the title appeared under a different name again ( Hazaúrbed ); He finds, for example, also in the inscription Schapurs I. at Naqsch -e Rostam again ( Middle Persian hz'lwpt, Parthian hzrwpt ).

In the Byzantine Empire, the term referred to the commander of a chili Archie of 1000 men, often referred to as Moira, Droungos or taxi Archie.
