Chillicothe is a city in Hardeman County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in the northeast of the county, north of Texas, on the border with Oklahoma and has a total area of 2.6 km ², without significant water surface.

History

The town was founded around 1880 and grew after the connection to the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway in 1887 quickly. It was named after the hometown of AE Jones in Missouri. The first post office was established in 1883. 1890, the town was completely destroyed by fire, and the inhabitants built the city on both sides of the railway line again.

31.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.1 % from 18 to 24, 26.2% 25-44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.4 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 84.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 75.7 males.
