China Central Television

China Central Television (Chinese中国 中央 电视台, Pinyin Zhōngguó Zhongyang Diànshìtái, dt "Chinese Central Television" ), often abbreviated as CCTV, is the largest TV station in the People's Republic of China. Organizationally, it is part of the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic, and as such has a journalistic dependence on government.

Program

The news coverage follows the specifications of the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China. The program consists mainly of comedies and dramas, mostly Chinese soap operas. In the 1990s the station, such as the many other media companies in China, the government subsidies have been cut drastically. This results in the program design to a balancing act between the state line and a predetermined program choice that can survive on the free market in the battle for viewers and advertising revenue. History
