China Rehabilitation Research Center

The China Rehabilitation Research Center is a state rehabilitation clinic in Beijing and at the same time the center of education and research in the field of rehabilitation in the People's Republic of China.

History

The establishment of the CRRC is much due to the initiative of Deng Pufang (son of Deng Xiaoping ). This himself suffered a spinal cord injury. He succeeded in the 80s to bring the hitherto virtually unknown in China concept of rehabilitation with support from other public and a group of doctors on the government's agenda.

Construction began in 1986, the opening ceremony was held on 28 October 1988. Thus, the CRRC was the first rehabilitation hospital in the PRC. The facility also experienced international support, particularly from Japan, Canada and Germany. International contacts are being maintained, inter alia, in the form of a partnership with the Emergency Hospital Berlin.

The clinic was originally built for 600 patients, but approximately 900 patients are currently treated. Is currently under construction for expansion, a new building with modern facilities for both diagnosis and therapy from the operating room on Stroke Unit to physical therapy.

Function

Primarily, the clinic of rehabilitation of people with physical disabilities serves. There are departments for the treatment of patients with paraplegia, stroke, as well as deformities and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. A special aspect is the integration of " Western" and traditional Chinese medicine. This includes the supply of prostheses and wheelchairs, of course, there is a pharmacy for traditional medicines. Connected but is also a rescue center for acutely ill patients care.

In CRRC several well-known patients, among them " Basketball Girl " Qian Hongyan were treated.

Furthermore, the house is central training facility for the now resulting network of more than 200 rehabilitation centers in the PRC. This training for nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and doctors will be held equally. At the same time various teaching books and materials are published on the subjects of rehabilitation and disability.

Finally, the CRRC both the China Disabled Persons Federation and the Government on matters of medical rehabilitation advises.
