China Star

The DJJ2 China Star (Chinese中华 之 星, Pinyin Zhong Hua Zhi Xing, Star of China ') is a high-speed train developed in China, was made of which only a prototype. He is considered the first train for high speed rail in China, which was developed without the help of foreign companies.

The DJJ2 was designed and built by a consortium led by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works. It is a further development of the built for the Guangshen Railway Trains series DJJ1 Blue arrow, which were built with the help of Adtranz. These trains carried only the first class and consisted of a powered head, six intermediate cars and a control car. Compared with the DD1 both the number of wagons as well as the drive power per car was increased when DD2. Further, the second category has been introduced.

The China Star consists of two power cars, a dining car, two middle car, 1st class, and six intermediate car, 2nd class. A power head is 21.7 meters long, 25.5 meters a middle car, the entire train 272.9 meters. The two power heads are connected to a roof line. Each powered end car is powered by four electric motors with each 1200 kW, which are supplied by two water-cooled GTO converter with energy.

The DD2 was completed in September 2002 and was designed for a maximum speed of 270 km / h. During a test run on 27 November 2002 on the Qinshen Passenger Railway, between Qinhuangdao and Shenyang, China Star reached 321.5 km / h, which meant a new record for the Chinese railways. Between January 2003 and December 2004, graduated from the train without passengers over 500,000 test kilometers on the only recently opened high-speed line Qinhuangdao - Shenyang.

Officially, though no reasons were given why the trainset not went into production, but probably was omitted due to the lack of reliability of the technology on the further construction. For example, the train had to return one day after the record run back to the depot, because an imported from France camp had thrown over-temperature alarm. The proposed demonstration ride with the then Minister of Railways Fu Zhihuan could not take place therefore.

The DDJ2 was still employed as of August 2005, passenger service, with the top speed to 160 km / h was limited. The train was located in Shenyang and ran between Shenyang and Shanhaiguan. In August 2006, the train was taken out of service and parked again until the end of 2009 in Shenyang. In early 2010 he was transferred to Tonghua. Currently, at least there is a part of the train at the Beijing Railway Museum near the CARS test ring in the northeast of the city.
