Chincha Alta

Chincha Alta is the capital of the province of Chincha Ica Department of the South American Andes in Peru State. It is located about 210 km south of Lima on the Panamerican Highway. The city had in 2005 a total area of ​​238.34 km ² approximately 56,000 inhabitants.

Chincha Alta was awarded city status on 26 October 1874 by Act of 13 October 1900 it was determined as a result of local government reform in the capital of the province of Chincha.

The city and its surrounding area are considered the center of Afro- Peruvian culture; especially for the music using the cajón, the city is known.
