Chinese Academy of Sciences

The Chinese Academy of Sciences, formerly known as Academia Sinica (Chinese中国科学院/中国科学院, Pinyin Zhōngguó Kēxuéyuàn, English Chinese Academy of Sciences (abbreviated CAS); Chinese Abbr Zhongkeyuan中科院), is the national academy for the natural sciences, Mathematics and engineering from the people's Republic of China. It operates under the State Council of the People's Republic of China. It was founded in November 1949 and is headquartered in Beijing with numerous institutions throughout China.

Structure

Departments

The Chinese Academy of Sciences has six departments:

  • I. Mathematics and Physics,
  • II Chemistry,
  • III. Life Sciences and Medical Sciences,
  • IV Geosciences,
  • V. Computer Science, and
  • VI. Technical Sciences.

Next, the Academy is divided into twelve branches in Shenyang, Changchun, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Kunming, Xi'an, Lanzhou and Urumqi. The Chinese Academy of Sciences has 84 institutes, two universities ( the Chinese University of Science and Technology in Hefei, Anhui University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), two colleges, four documentation and information centers, three centers for technological support, and dual Edition units. These branches and offices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences are located in twenty provinces and independent cities in China. The Chinese Academy of Sciences has provided or created in eight industries over 430 high-tech companies. Eight of these companies are listed.
