Chinese units of measurement

The unit system of Imperial China (Chinese市 制, Pinyin Shizhi, market standard ') is parallel to the SI unit system in modern China. Still in use and is related to the Japanese Shakkanhô The prefix市, shì, market, town 'is used to avoid confusion with the same SI units, where appropriate公, gōng ' standard ' can be prefixed.

The system has been redefined at the beginning of the 20th century in response to the respective SI units and used since then mainly decimal factors (formerly part 16).

Note: The small units li (厘) and fen (分) have the same name for length, area and mass.

Length

The two lis are not only spelled differently, but also talked differently.

In Canton there were four different foot dimensions.

  • Foot of the mathematical tribunal = 13.125 inches (English ) = 0.333 meters
  • Baufuß ( Congpu ) = 12.7 inches (English ) = 0.3228 meters
  • Schneider or Kaufmannsfuß = 13.33 inches (English ) = 0.3383 meters
  • Ingenieurfuß = 12.65 inches (English ) = 0.3211 meters

These units were particularly widespread in the precious metals and currency exchange rates.

Used as a dry measure for grain.
