Chippewa County (Michigan)

Chippewa County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sault Ste. Marie.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme east of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, bounded on the northwest by Canada, to the north, northeast, east, southeast and south by Lake Huron, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​6988 square kilometers, of which 2945 square kilometers water surface are. History

Chippewa County was formed in 1827 from parts of Mackinac County. It was named after the Chippewa, a tribe of Indians.
