Chippewa Falls is a city ( with a status of "City" ) and the administrative seat of Chippewa County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010 Chippewa Falls had 13,661 inhabitants, making it the largest city in Chippewa County.

Chippewa Falls is one of the two core cities in the metropolitan region of Eau Claire- Chippewa Falls metropolitan area.

Name

The town lies on the River Chippewa River. The river's name is derived from the tribe of the Ojibwa, the resident Indians from. The first settlers gave the name " Ojibwa " as " Chippewa " again.

Geography

Chippewa Falls is located in western Wisconsin on both sides of the Chippewa River. This flows 95 km south-west of the border with Minnesota Mississippi forming. History

Around the year 1700 the French explorer Pierre -Charles Le Sueur discovered the Chippewa source near the river.
