Chiquimulilla

Chiquimulilla is a city in Guatemala, which belongs to the administrative district of Santa Rosa. It is located about 107 km south-east of Guatemala City and 20 km from the Pacific coast.

The city is an important regional commercial center and transportation hub. Main products are leather goods. Chiquimulilla had 2006 12.700 inhabitants, in the same 499 -acre commune ( municipality ) live about 50,000 people.

In the adjacent countryside still live some descendants of Xinka. This ethnic group was almost completely destroyed after the conquest by the Spaniards, especially by diseases that had introduced the Europeans. Before the arrival of the Spaniards they were resident in the territory of the department of Santa Rosa. They do not belong to the ethnic groups of the Maya. There are only a few dozen old people, dominate the language Xinka.
