Chitignano

Chitignano is a municipality with 914 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 15 km ². It is located about 25 km north of Arezzo and 55 km east of Florence in the mountain valley of the Casentino.

The districts include Rosina and Taena. Borders the following municipalities: Caprese Michelangelo, Chiusi della Verna and Subbiano.

History

The community was founded in 1780, when was joined Taena and Rosina as districts to Chitignano. The first mention of the village was 967 in a document of Otto I the Great. After that, the place has long been in the possession of the Counts of Chiusi and the Ubertini until 1325 under the rule of Tarlati Guido, Archbishop of Arezzo, came. With the capture of the metropolitan area by the Florentine Republic in 1384 the city fell to the under Florentine control Umberti and was incorporated into the Duchy of Tuscany later.
