Chiusi della Verna

Chiusi della Verna is a municipality with 2052 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in Tuscany, Italy.

Geography

The site covers about 102 km ². It is located about 25 km north of Arezzo and 60 km east of Florence in mountain valley Casentino. There is the southern end of a conservation area with many wooded hills and mountains. Just above the village is the Monastery of La Verna, a Franciscan monastery, which was built over the cave where St. Francis of Assisi received the stigmata.

The districts include Biforco, Compito, Corezzo, Corsalone, Dama, Case Nuove, Frassineta, Gargiano, Giampereta, La Beccia, La Rocca, La Verna, Rimbocchi, Sarna, Val della Meta, Vallebona and Vezzano.

The neighboring municipalities are Bagno di Romagna ( FC ), Bibbiena, Caprese Michelangelo, Castel Focognano, Chitignano, Pieve Santo Stefano, Poppi, Subbiano and Verghereto (FC).

Tourism

Chiusi della Verna is a popular destination for hikers, there is a campground and a network of well- marked hiking trails.
