Chlorociboria aeruginascens

Kleinsporiger verdigris peel fungus ( Chlorociboria aeruginascens )

The Kleinsporige verdigris peel fungus ( Chlorociboria aeruginascens ) is an ascomycete, which can be found on lying on the ground, rotten hardwood.

Features

The often short -stalked fruiting bodies, these are often deformed 3-5 (-10 ) mm wide cup. They are colored blue greenish, the disc may be brighter. The asci are achtsporig and included in irregular two-row arrangement spindle-shaped spores; they are 5-8 ( -10 ) microns long and about 1.5-2 microns in diameter. The fungus gets its color by the dye Xylindein, which is found both in the fruiting bodies as well as in the mycelium. The dye remains even after dying in the woods. Therefore, one speaks of a " green rot ", but it is just a color variant of the white rot.

Occurrence and possibilities of confusion

The Kleinsporige verdigris peel fungus occurs on horizontal musty Hardwood, often in oak or beech wood, but also on other types, the inside and outside is discolored characteristic greenish blue. Developed fruiting bodies only come at a high humidity to the fore, when dry they shrink together. The fungus is widespread in the northern hemisphere, in Germany scattered occurring, in the Atlantic zone of influence often.

The Kleinsporige verdigris peel fungus ( Chlorociboria aeruginascens ) may from Großsporigen verdigris peel fungus ( Chlorociboria aeruginosa) are only differentiated microscopically ( pore size 8-15 microns long and 2-4 microns in diameter). The kleinsporige species occurs in northern and central Europe frequently. The mushroom pictured was not determined on the genus beyond.

Use

The greenish- blue wood was used in the Renaissance period for inlay work. The dye Xylindein, is quite resistant to light in the wood.
